this little squirrel...

embroideredsquirrel

…along with a friendly hedgehog and a pair of the cutest little red booties ever will be making their way to a sweet little one soon. I wish I could meet this colorful little lady, but will just have to trust that she’s amazingly adorable (and really, I have no doubt about that).

These woodland friends also complete February’s quota for Craft Book Challenge (just in time!). Although I veered from the original project ever-so-slightly, the embroidered onesies are from Alicia Paulson’s Stitched in Time. I had the pleasure of meeting lovely Alicia at a book signing recently and seeing many of the beautiful creations from the book firsthand, so I’ve been itching to get going on this project.

booties

The embroidery patterns are Sublime Stitching’s Forest Friends (extra credit for using an embroidery pattern?). And the little booties + pouch are from Tiny House (her shop is freshly stocked with LOTS of cute new stuffs – check it out!)

And now, onto March!

these are adorable---i love the onesies.

is embroidery hard? i've never done it before but i've been playing around on Sublime Stitching lately and I was thinking of buying the Ultimate Embroidery Kit, but am scared to shell out the $30, less it end up hidden under my bed much like the supplies from my failed attempt at learning to knit. your thoughts?

thanks tammie! regarding embroidery: it's super easy and meditative, i'd definitely recommend it. although i adore everything sublime stitching makes, i'd probably hold off on the kit until you try your hand at it first. hoops are very cheap (i see them all the time at thrift stores) as is floss. you can find really good instructions online. and all you need is a scrap of fabric to begin. i'd say the only thing you really need is a pattern, but even then, a downloaded image from the web traced onto a piece of cotton works fine! have fun!

I'm so glad you like the shoes! I love the onesies!!!

Tammie--embroidery is easy, if you have the patience for it. I tend to use my own sketches, on scraps of linen, but have on occasion bought little patterns (all Sublime Stitching.) I say, maybe buy one or two patterns you love, and go from there. There's no need to shell out a ton of money, especially if you're not sure if you'll keep on with it. :O)

Love that squirrel. Today I stared at one of our fat fox squirrels for a long time and wondered if I could eat him. Too much Jamie Oliver reading, I think.
